“What do Hungarian minority communities request?”
We want effective minority politics!
1. We – national and ethnic minority communities, as acknowledged as a constituant part of the state by the Constitution – are claiming the protection of minority rights and the preservation of our institutions and the provision of their operational conditions.
2. We are claiming to establish and guarantee our fundamental cultural, linguistic and self-governing minority rights in the new Constitution.
3. We are claiming to safeguard the institutional independence of the Parliamentary Commissioner of National and Ethnic Minority Rights.
4. We are claiming to establish the parliamentary representation of the national and ethnic minorities.
5. We are claiming to adopt a new Act on minorities that takes substantive steps to consummate the cultural autonomy of the minorities.
6. We are claiming to establish the necessary institutions to preserve our minority culture and traditions.
7. We are claiming to preserve our nursery-schools and schools, and to develop the system of minority education.
8. We are claiming the free use of our mother languages in order to stop the linguistic assimilation.
9. We are claiming to strengthen one of the basic values of the Hungarian autonomy-model: our local, regional and national minority self-governments; also to enforce our representative rights and our rights both to sustain institutions and to autonomously manage the minority public affairs; and to guarantee predictable conditions necessary for the efficient functioning.
10. We are claiming to prevent people who do not belong to minority communities from establishing minority self-governments by a conceptional change of the electional regulations.
11. We are claiming the restitution of the preferential local government mandate in favour of a more efficient representation of the minorities’ interests.
12. We are claiming to support the peaceful coexistence between the majority and minority society; to enforce effective realisation of equal treatment and the equality of chances.
